In real life, spades players normally have a sheet of paper and a pencil to record scores. Each player have to say how many bids they think they'll get in each hand to the score keeper.
Take a look at his hand again.....he did not hold up a 5 of heart. I would bid 2 (2 aces) and a possible trump on the doubleton diamonds which =3 bid total. Also, he counted the 2 jacks for the possible (judging by that he is an advance player).
